The Ready-to-Use
Violence Prevention Skills Lessons & Activities

by Ruth Weltmann Begun and Frank J. Huml, Editors

is a unique series consisting of two books. It offers a ready-to-use curriculum focusing on a wide range of contemporary topics such as stimulant use, family relationships, dealing with anger, managing threatening situations, and gang-related activities. The lessons are based on real situations in students' own lives that involve dealing with feelings, self-esteem, peer pressure, and respect for others. The lessons will build character, prepare students to recognize potentially violent situations, and teach them the skills needed to handle conflicts in a non-violent and peaceful manner. Therefore, this curriculum will help to prepare students to recognize situations that could become violent, and at the same time assist them further to build character, avoid danger and resolve conflicts peacefully.

This series includes over 90 tested lessons and about twice that many self-contained reproducible worksheets in two separately printed, self-contained books, again each tailored to the developmental needs of students at two different grade levels: Elementary and Secondary. For easy use, the lessons in each volume follow the same format that is used in the Social Skills Lessons. The volume for elementary students includes the Family Training Booklet.
