A group of high school students were trained to
teach Social Skills to elementary school children using the
Ready-to-Use Social Skills Lessons & Activities. This teaching
experiment was a great success as seen from the following comments
and found easy acceptance in other schools:
Elementary Teachers:
"I thought that the high school students did a great job and the
experience was very beneficial for my class! The lessons were
presented in a format that caught my students' attention and made
them eager to learn. The high school students showed great patience
and poise in re-explaining necessary concepts."
"The high school students were well prepared, articulate, and very
sincere while working with students. They were professional and
understanding while presenting information and answering questions.
These students were a delight to have in our classroom"
"They did a great job interacting with the kids. They brought energy
and excitement into our classroom."
High School Students:
"I liked spending time with the kids. I liked feeling as if I touched
every one of them in a certain way."
"It was fun working and interacting with the students. I was glad to
represent our school and to be able to give advice that may help the
students in future years."
"My personal experience with the fourth graders was not only a
learning experience for them, but also for me."
"Teaching about social skills and feelings helped open a whole new
world to the elementary students. They became aware of the emotions
from the other person's point of view, not just their own."
Elementary School Students:
"The high school kids are great. They taught me how to be a better
friend and a better person."
"Thanks for making us understand to help others and not tease
people."
"You taught me a lot about emotions, like if you make fun of a kid,
you may think it is funny, but they feel sad. Thanks a lot. I hope
that you come to teach us in the 5th grade. Thanks a billion."
"I like the high school kids who came to talk to us because they did
a great job. Thank you for taking time off your school to work with
us. Thank you, all of you."
